Why this disease?

Many doctors and researchers believe that vitiligo is an autoimmune-related disorder. Although researchers are not exactly sure what causes the autoimmune response, more is being learned every year. In vitiligo, only the color of the skin is affected. The texture and other skin qualities remain normal.

25 June Initiative

The 25June Initiative aims to increase awareness of vitiligo and raise funds for research, national vitiligo associations and support groups. Led by the VR Foundation, this year’s goal is to mark World Vitiligo Day on June 25 a date to be observed annually by the United Nations.

Collaborative Approach

We represent a new, collaborative approach to medical research and development where like-minded investigators and volunteers create common pools of knowledge and processes upon which new discoveries and innovations are made.

About Us

Our Approach

Approach such as ours proved itself enormously valuable, i.e. in genetics, with GenBank – the largest public database of genetic information. It is the culmination of myriad public and private efforts that placed genetic information in the public domain. It provides an infrastructure of freely available scientific information for millions of biomedical researchers and will spur follow-on innovation for decades.

With the same approach, VITINOMICS.NET is focused on a specific problem in dermatology – vitiligo. A small number of visionaries think there is an enormous opportunity for collaboration here. No one is suggesting it will be easy, but combining resources of philanthropists, government and NGO’s with top scientific minds currently offer the most hope for neglected diseases, such as vitiligo.
